What do you learn in PCA events - what do you learn in SCCA events?

Stay in your car. The yellow flag had been flown after the vehicle crash...when Kevin Ward stepped from his vehicle, his life was in his own hands. Then he did the unthinkable - he walked out onto the track to confront Tony Stewart on the muddy track - in a black driving suit at night.

Tragedy was inevitable?

When you watch that video, view it from the perspective of a driver - then a safety official - then finally from the perspective of a spectator.

What should have happened? Ward should have remained in his car. Yellow flag goes to black, cars pit in competitive order. The field crew goes to check on Ward's car. Everyone lives.

Unless your car is on fire...you are safest in it.

Truly sad.

Sad indeed! I never understood the NASCAR guys getting out of the car to confront other drivers. They are getting paid to drive & don't have to pay for any crash damage to the car.

I can see it at the club level where we have a gentleman's agreement that no mater who is at fault everyone pays for there own damage. I have had one incident on track where I made contact with a friend in a Spec 996, I felt bad & went over right away to apologize. He thought I would lift & I thought he would & we made contact. A racing incident we shook hands & all was forgotten.

I have seen some intense arguments at the NASA nationals but, this is all post race & in impound not on the track.

I feel bad for all involved but, It should not have happened!

I was asked the Question of what I thought of the accident by a family member and my answer was what i was told at the track the rule is don't get out of your car unless your car is on fire. They are now implementing that rule in Nascar with fines if not followed. Did they not have that rule are do they like the drama that comes out of an accident for making money.

I don't think Tony saw him until it was too late and I agree he should not have stepped out . I am glad we teach that at our events . That kid had too much testosterone and is very sad he lost his life.

That statement only makes sense if you believe that running around in an all black racing suit (and helmet) at night on a hot (yes, under yellow) track whilst charging closely spaced cars is a reasonable and responsible driver behavior. ph34r.gif

It would also require equal stupidity between both parties. to_pick_ones_nose2.gif

It was pretty frickin stupid to be charging traffic, I cannot imagine Tony Stewart was more stupid than that. punish.gif

He should walk. Damage done and a life of regret. unsure.gif

A very provocative statement, to say the least. If your gonna fry Tony Stewart, you should at least gather the facts, and then try to understand the context of the environment in which the tragedy took place.

Tony Stewart deserves all the do proces in the world. But there is one issue I can't get passed. How come every other driver on the track saw and avoided Kevin Ward.

The stupid kid jumped out of their way and in front of Stewart which was too late for Stewart to avoid him . the other car did not avoid him he avoid the car . What happen he made a short carer in racing. U have raced when u finish the last lap and u r not rolled , hit or on fire.It more important to be alive and Racing .
