These clowns are meeting for one purpose and one purpose only - to get reelected, while the US economy is disintegrating....

That is not the last of it. The Democraps are also proposing another 100 Billion in spending, primarily by extending, get this, another 99 weeks of un-employement insurance. These guys are hell bent in turning us into another Greece and ruining the country.

I think the house and senate members and their staffs should go without pay before they take away social security and medicare benefits simply because those benefits have already been paid for by the recipients, they call those handouts but in reality the gov't is only giving back to them a portion of what it took from them during their working life time. The best way to raise tax revenue is to have more people working and that will only happen when business owners change their opinion of the government. Most business owners right now live with the fear of some new law or regulation wrecking their business and because of that, expansion is the last thing on their mind.

I hate to say this, and it is not popular...but most folks didn't pay in nearly what they take out even with a calculation of the most aggresively compounded interest or growth. So the thought that they are getting a "portion" is only correct if they live about 3-5 years beyond retirement...living to 75-85 is a money making deal for them.

The formula was wrong in the beginning and, frankly, there was an inadequate amount withheld to pay for all the hips, knees, hearts, medicines, care, and lifetime checks our seniors are receiving. Their standard of care to date has been paid for by the workers paying in today...and the care of folks retiring today will be paid for (or not) by the workers of tomorrow. The money I've put in has been spent.

The presumption that the government provide Social Security was wrong in the beginning, too. Financial security is the responsibility of the individual. FDR started us on this path to ruin.

There's just not enough money to be collected (even from the rich) to pay for the entitlements owed the boomers and beyond. The amount they get must be adjusted or the system will collapse...it is collapsing as we speak. There must be cuts in benefits...and redefinitions of the age and condition of retirement and disability.

I expect the O-man to allow a crisis that actually keeps checks from old folks, govt. workers, states, and soldiers for a short time (few days or weeks) to frighten them over to dependency on him.

The threat to the masses of the loss of their unsustainable lifestyle will ultimately give him the control he wants. We're at bread and circuses already.

No one is talking about taking away Social Security or Medicare. The proposals on the Social Security issue is to means test it, and to increase the retirement eligibility age. The Medicare proposal revolves around giving Seniors a voucher in which they can shop the insurance industry for the best price, Capitalism at its best. Medicare and Social Security are not considered handouts, these two programs force the taxpayer to pay additional taxes with the understanding that the benefits promised will be fulfilled. The handout programs are Medicaid and Food stamps, programs that the actual taxpayer does not qualify for but picks up the full tab. Yes, 47% of Americans pay no federal taxes; thus, decreasing this percentage would raise more revenues with the added benefit that these folks are not likely to elect politicians, primarily democraps, that rely on these same people to vote for more freebies and thus allow these politicians to maintain and or increase their power. This is what Socialism is all about, tax the producers and distribute their wealth to non productive members of society. The problem with this ideology is that at some point you run out of people to tax; hence, just like the USSR, and now European nations, the system will collapse on itself.
On the issue of increasing jobs, Obama has proven himself as an incompetent in this matter. But then again, what can people expect from an activist professor who has never had a real job, or even run a fricking lemonade stand. He expects companies to hire people just because these companies are sitting on mountains of cash. He ignores the fact that since his administration has been running this country, the amount of rules, regulations and restrictions have increased exponentially to the point that the risk takers, entrepreneurs, are not willing to take the necessary risks. Furthermore, this clown continues to promote class warfare by going after the wealthy, the same people that create the jobs. If you think about it, the Socialist ideologues are usually the old money, people that have inherited wealth, and the aspiring wealthy that have no talents or skills and thus hope to gain their wealth through government confiscation. Again, the same people that demonize the Jets the Yachts are the ones that are the primary beneficiaries of such luxuries. Obama, once again, loves flying around at the taxpayer's expense and yet is hellbent on destroying one of the few industries left that this country is a world leader in.

RandyB is called inflation and probably is the same amount in value when you draw the SS benefits > what they failed is raising the retirement age on time or foresee the problem of us Baby Boomers which was and still is a working class and yes we should reap the benefits and agree with NPN we paid it we deserve it.

I would encourage you to look at the total you've contributed to SS the next time you get an annual statement.
Then take a sharpie and mark through it, because you'll probably never see it.

Sorry.
